Description

1981 MERCEDES BENZ 560 SLC AUTO w111 series (black)

Black with black leather ONLY- 41,000 MILES.

This totally unique custom Mercedes Benz SLC has a great story to it.

In 1981 when it was born at Stuttgart as a Mercedes Benz 380 SLC in metallic thistle with black leather, it was then sold to the second owner in 1986. He took it to a Mercedes Benz dealership and specialist in Sheffield and had a new 560 engine fitted 117 code.5549cc, all now registered with DVLA and the logbook etc.

In 1986 when the 560 engines were introduced, they only were available in the SL and only to the American market? Which is a great shame, as the second owner thought; but this did not stop him making this into a 560 SLC!

As I am sure, all you Mercedes enthusiasts already know that in 1979 the Mercedes 500 SLC won the south American rally. I believe it was one of the longest and hardest rallies ever and the famous Andrew Cowan won the race in an SLC with 300 bhp. The runner up was also an 500 SLC.

This 560 SLC has 320 bhp.  It has been proven on a rolling road machine, it is very fast and very very quick.

I bought this car last year from a retiring Mercedes Benz collector.

He came into my showroom for some lunch and introduced himself and told me he had over 50 Mercedes Benz that he has collected over the last 40 years and he wants to sell them.

He started to tell me all about his collection, "I HAVE  THREE 450 SELS  6.9S AND 280 PAGODAS TWO 300 SEL 6.3CC AND TWO G WAGONS FEW SLS 107S AND AMGS CARS MERCEDES MOTORHOMES, MERCEDES TRUCKS AND 560 SLC's" !! well I stopped him in his tracks,  the 450 SLC's being my favourite car of all time—"YOU SAID 560 SLC, I DIDNT THINK THEY DID ONE!" AND HE LAUGHTED AND SAID " WELL IV GOT ONE AND IV OWNED IT FOR 26 YEARS!" HE SAID " IT HAS BEEN STOOD STILL FOR  25 YEARS IN MY GARAGE!" THE LAST TIME HE USED IT WAS WHEN HE DROVE IT TO MONTICARLO IN FRANCE FOR 3 WEEKS ON HOLIDAY WITH HIS FAMILY AND NEVER USED IT SINCE?

I couldn’t believe what I was being told, I had to have it, I wanted to go home with him and see this car I wanted it so badly.

He said Im going away tomorrow for 2 weeks, and when Im back I will ring you.

I DIDNT SLEEP FOR 2 WEEKS, IM NOT JOKING.

Two weeks passed and I rang him, I drove down that day and bought the car, I could not believe how pristine it was underneath and the body work was 10 out 10.

He assured me it was a genuine 560 SLC and  they only made 100. I checked the engine code under the pan lid and sure enough,  it was a genuine 560 engine, I know the real story now after investigation but it is still the only 1 heard of and the only one I know of.

I got it trailered straight away, to Nick Websters MERCEDES BENZ SPECIALIST and MERCEDES BENZ GENIUS, he knows my love for these cars and how passionate I was about this car. I instructed him to go right through the car,  I don’t care how much it costs.

He rang two days later to inform me that it was excellent underneath and it is running.

Five weeks later and £5500 bill, he informed me that he had removed the fuel tank and cleaned out, fitted new fuel pump new fuel lines, renewed all brakes renewed all tyres, new bushes, new battery, new starter, new exhaust, fully serviced, new this, new that, all genuine Mercedes Benz parts and it drives like a new one and is very fast.

After driving it for 4 weeks and totally in love with it, I decided on a colour change, so I sent it to Finess body shop for a full bare metal respray, it has taken them 5 months and £6000 later, I have all the bare metal pictures to prove there was no rust anywhere, when they took the windscreens out and lifted the front bulkhead off where the hidden drain holes are, it was like new, no rust, it has all been correctly wax oiled now.

The workmanship that has gone into this car is amazing, when you look down the side it is like new, you can see all the curves and grooves, it is a show winner, they have done me very proud.

I also spent £4000 on new chrome work, all from Mercedes Benz dealership, the old chrome was ok but in places was dull, I have kept it for spares.

I have never seen a 30 year old car look like new, the finished result is amazing and is totally original underneath.

I have had every nut and bolt polished, you can use the air pan as a mirror it is that polished!.

This car has been an absolute pleasure to work on and my late Father had a 450 SLC for 18 years as his second Mercedes and did very similar to his car, he changed the colour from Ivory to Signal Red, he was always taking it to shows or picnics day outs he loved that car; I always remember him saying, " Son if I ever win the lottery, I am going to send this car back to Germany, to the Mercedes Benz factory and say, "make this car like a new one! (happy days)"

If anyone is interested in this car you are very welcome to ring or email and you never know, one day I might sell her.
